How To Reset Sound On Iphone 6
How to fix no sound on an iPhone
Having problems getting your iPhone to play music, podcasts, or other audio? We outline a few ways to fix an iPhone making no sound
If you're having trouble with Apple Music not playing, podcasts remaining silent, or any other absence of audio on your iPhone, then obviously something is wrong. Here are a few different methods to fix an iPhone making no sound before booking an appointment at the Genius bar.
Check the mute switch
On the upper lefthand side of your iPhone is the hardware switch that you use to turn sound on and off. You know the iPhone is in silent mode if you can see a little strip of orange above the button.
This can often be turned on by mistake while taking the iPhone out of a pocket or while it's in a bag. Take a quick look to see if that's the case. If so, slide it back and your sounds should instantly return.
See if Do Not Disturb setting is on
Another common reason for a sudden cessation of sound is when the Do Not Disturb setting gets turned on accidentally or is left on after a meeting has finished.
To work out if this is the case go to Settings > Do Not Disturb, and check if any of the sliders are turned on. Should you find one, disable it and see if that makes a difference.
For more on this feature read our How to turn off Do Not Disturb while driving guide.
Check the volume
Just as the mute switch can be turned on by accident, the same is true with volume. If you keep your iPhone in your pocket, then leaning or sitting in certain positions can cause the volume buttons to be pressed, which in turn makes the device silent.
Press the volume up button on the side of your iPhone, or slide up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Centre and use the volume control icon.
Turn off Bluetooth
One possibility for a lack of sound is that your iPhone could be connected to another speaker via Bluetooth. This means that any music or other sounds will be sent to that device rather than played on your phone.
To fix this, open Control Centre or Settings and disable Bluetooth.
Can you hear sound through headphones?
If the internal speaker on your iPhone is not producing any sound, try plugging in a pair of headphones to see if that works instead.
Should you now hear audio, it could mean that either the phone's speaker is faulty or that the headphone jack is making a contact somehow. Give the port a gentle clean, making sure to remove any fluff of dirt inside, and see if that helps.
Use the IT Crowd method
If all else fails, try turning it off and on again. This might sound basic, but in so many cases with electronic devices it's often a fast way to resolve a problem.
Should none of these tips bring back the music to your life then it might be time to book an appointment with Apple Support. But at least you won't be embarrassed when the technician immediately turns off the mute switch and hands the iPhone back to you.
